Our House is celebrating five years of its innovative program that’s helped nearly 1,400 people with children who were near-homelessness.

The Central Arkansas Family Stability Institute has helped 381 families who have gone through the 12-month program of intensive case management and wrap-around services. Out of those families, 90 percent have maintained stable housing along with full-time income.

“It’s just a lot of shame comes with that, and so it’s not all ever easy to go ask for help when you’re used to being the one to help,” said Kanisha Hatton.

“It’s just a lot of shame comes with that, and so it’s not all ever easy to go ask for help when you’re used to being the one to help,” said Kanisha Hatton.

Hatton lost her job in December of 2015, her daughter Scarlet was just 6 months old at the time. Prior, she used to work with families at Our House, but then became a client going through CAFSI.

“Being on the other side of that table, having to get help when you’re used to being the one that’s being the advocate to help others, it just really took a turn,” she added.

“We see the needs of these families and we get in the way, we get in the way of domestic violence, we get in the way of substance abuse, we get in the way of underemployment, felony convictions and not just CAFSI, the whole seven-acre campus,” said Lead CAFSI Case Manager, Chris Ramsey.

Our House also credits their two-generation approach, working with both parents and children.
