At our seven-acre campus in Little Rock, Our House provides a comprehensive array of services to equip our clients with the skills, resources, and confidence to overcome homelessness permanently. We achieve this through several unique programs that form our organization as a whole. Below, you can learn about the many resources available to all who walk through our gates.
There are two housing units on our campus. Our Shelter is our longest-running program and provides a home to up to 80 men, women, and children each day. We also have a Family House which consists of 13 dormitory-style units where residents can build the skills needed for their transition out of homelessness. In order to begin this transition out of homelessness and to ensure that none of our residents return to it upon leaving, all residents at Our House must find and keep a full-time job and must save 75% of their earnings. We also offer a job training program for residents with significant barriers to employment to develop the necessary skills needed to seek employment in the future. Our housing programs are home to more than 1,000 different people each year and in 2016 saw 80% of residents exit out of homelessness. Click here to learn more about our Housing programs!
Our Career Center opened in the Summer of 2016 and focuses on empowering homeless and near-homeless families and individuals to succeed in the workforce, in school, and in life through hard work, wise decision-making, and active participation in the community. The Career Center specializes in four main areas: Education, Employment & Training, Health & Wellness, and Financial Empowerment. Services at the Career Center, which include employment coaching, physical and mental health services, and courses in a variety of topics ranging from finance to college readiness, are open to both the residents of our Housing program as well as anyone else who may need them all at no cost. Our two-generation approach to preventing homelessness at Our House means that children are supported just as much as adults. There are two children’s programs at Our House. The Little Learners Child Development Center is a Better Beginnings Level 3 accredited Child Development Center that serves children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Children who attend Little Learners are the children of current and former residents, Our House staff, and members of the community. Little Learners is dedicated to meeting developmental milestones for all children and preparing them for a successful transition into school. Our second program, Our Club, is an after-school youth program and Summer program serving children ages 6 to 18. Our Club youth engage in enriching, educational, and fun activities that increase their knowledge and skills necessary to succeed at school. Daily homework help sessions also help improve their grades and promote attendance. Both of our Children’s Programs engage with parents through Family Fun Nights and Talk-Back events to ensure that we are meeting the needs of their children both academically and socially.
