Our House operates Arkansas’s only licensed child development center and youth program specifically targeted to homeless and near-homeless families. These programs not only make it easier for parents to find and keep a full-time job (the cornerstone requirement of our programs), but they also give us the chance to invest time, energy, and resources to help children thrive emotionally, developmentally, and academically. Our children’s programs serve homeless residents of Our House, former residents, CAFSI clients, and more.
Little Learners Child Development Center
Little Learners Child Development Center is a licensed child care facility and a Better Beginning Center providing high quality children’s programming for the working parents of Our House, as well as for community members at a low weekly rate. DHS child care vouchers are accepted as well.
We provide a structured daily schedule which includes time for small and large group activities, music, art, large and small motor development, and outdoor play. A healthy breakfast, lunch, and snack are served daily as part of our Special Nutrition Program. We also offer speech, physical, and occupational therapy to all children who qualify.
Our Club After School Program
The Our Club after school program is a great resource for residents of Our House and low income families with school age children. We provide youth in Kindergarten – 12th grade a safe, consistent, and comfortable place to learn and grow.
The five main components of Our Club are Life Skills, Heath and Physical Fitness, Cultural Enrichment, STEM, and Art. Staff and volunteers take every opportunity to incorporate each of these principles into fun daily activities that enrich and engage. On a given day, an Our Club kid may experience:
- African American culture and history
- Cooking and nutrition
- One-on-one tutoring
- Community service projects
- Field trips
- Guest speakers
- STEM Projects
Our Club loves our volunteers! You could tutor a child or teach a workshop. If you are looking to donate, school uniforms of all colors and sizes are a constant need.
Our Club Summer
Our House’s summer youth program is a eight week summer camp for homeless and near homeless 6 to 17 year-olds in Little Rock. From 7:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, their day will be filled with arts and crafts, science and technology, theater and dance, health and wellness, and at least two field trips a week.
Past field trips include, to name a few: Museum of Discovery, Arkansas Arts Center, Arkansas Skatium, Altitude Trampoline Park, and the Little Rock Zoo.
