Earlier this year, Sheraton described herself as heading down a negative path of being rebellious against her family, leading to a physical altercation that sent her to a correctional facility. Upon her exit, Sheraton’s Uncle encouraged her to come to Our House to pursue classes in the Career Center. Sheraton completed all of her required sessions in the Our House Career Center, and officially enrolled in the Young Adult Rock City Reentry Program, a partnership between Our House and the Little Rock Workforce Development Board. Having lost her job while in the correctional facility, Sheraton’s Reentry Case Manager, Ben, connected her with subsidized employment at Habitat for Humanity’s Restore. While Sheraton was only in her position with Habitat for a short time due to COVID-19, they were hooked by her lively personality and outstanding customer service. When the Restore locations recently opened again, they contacted Sheraton to hire her outright for a permanent position. Sheraton now works full-time as a cashier in an environment that she describes as friendly, peaceful, and somewhere she looks forward to going every day. Sheraton continues to work with her Reentry Case Manager to set goals for saving money for an apartment and a car, enroll in a culinary arts program, and create a stronger, more positive mindset towards life. With the support of her coworkers and the stability she’s found, Sheraton has high hopes for not only excelling in her current job, but also advancing in her career with Habitat.
