LITTLE ROCK, AR (KATV) — The 15th annual Coats for Kids campaign is set to run until January 7, so there’s still plenty of time to join in to be part of the outreach.

This is Arkansas Surgical Hospital’s second year sponsoring this event and our house has expressed nothing but gratitude for the support.

Our House works in many ways to take care of the unhoused community and those in need and one priority is making sure no one that seeks their help has to leave empty handed.

They expressed the joy in being able to see each person pick through the colors and unique styles of winter ware to find their perfect match. Not only warming their bodies but their hearts as well.

“Receiving coats is a blessing. At this time of year, we have a lot of foot traffic that comes from the community who are looking for services, said Caroline Robbins, Development Director for Our House.

“And while we might not have a bed available, we can say, Come down, come down to our Career Center and grab a warm coat and let us help you get your basic needs met.”

Fowler praised Our House for its holistic approach to helping individuals out of homelessness, noting its alignment with the hospital’s values.

“Obviously, it’s a shelter to get a roof and a hot meal, but they have education and workforce training, and again, things that are just really holistically trying to help an individual get out of homelessness, and they do it in such a manner with just kindness and compassion that we really felt was very congruent with the way that we take care of patients here at Arkansas surgical hospital.”

Our House said last year they received so many coats last year that they were able to donate some to emergency winter weather warming centers in addition to helping those in their care.

They plan to do the same if there’s surplus this year.

“There’s so many phenomenal organizations out in the state that we can that are doing such good work, but we really just got to know our house last year, and just so impressed with their mission and what they do,” said Bryan Fowler, Arkansas Surgical Hospital CEO.

“We have so many locations for drop offs, and 100% of the coats go to a place that is going to have such a need, and they’ll be able to use them, disseminate them. And it’s just, it’s really fantastic. The amount of hands that they can reach.”
