Heather

When Heather realized the lack of opportunities available to her at her halfway house, she decided to move to Our House. As soon as Heather arrived in the Shelter, she saw that if she worked the program and applied herself, she would be able to move forward. When a knee injury kept her from her job, Heather was able to enroll in our job training program as the Intake Clerk for the Shelter and later oversaw communications at our Resale Store. While working, Heather utilized the services in the Career Center to open a bank account, improve her computer skills, and learn how to budget, and was assigned a Reentry Case Manager to help her overcome any legal challenges. After five months of living in the Shelter, Heather was approved to move into Family Housing. In Family Housing, Heather enjoyed the quieter atmosphere and the community developed between the mothers there. It was even in Family Housing that Heather met her fiancé, James! Our House gave Heather the structure, accountability, and support she needed to become sober and the confidence she needed to reconnect with her children. After saving and building a strong foundation of work and life skills, Heather and James have both exited the Housing program and moved into their own home together in North Little Rock! Because of her outstanding performance in our job training program, Heather was recently hired in a staff position as a temporary Assistant Manager at our Resale Store!
