Jimmy and his daughter Autumn came to Our House in the last few days of December 2020, after leaving a toxic family situation. Because of their family status as a single dad, they were moved immediately into the Family House, where they have their own room. Jimmy has quickly jumped in with two feet to the Our House community by joining the job trainee program on the campus maintenance team. As a self-described jack of all trades, this role has fit Jimmy perfectly, and he has handled projects like re-organizing our tool sheds and overhauling our gardens.
Jimmy’s eight-year-old daughter Autumn has also found community at Our House through the Our Club virtual school center that runs all-day in these new COVID times. Additionally, Jimmy & Autumn have found great resources through the CAFSI program and the Career Center.
When asked about his favorite part of Our House so far, Jimmy says that he really enjoys the independence he has here and that Our House “push[es] you to be better for yourself and push[es] you to surround yourself with better beginnings.” In 2021, Jimmy has the goal of completing his nine-month job trainee program and hopefully creating permanence for his daughter by securing a house.
