After over two years living in our Housing programs with her youngest children, Victoria and J’Vonte, Sheila and her family are moving into their own apartment. While at Our House, Sheila used the Career Center and our hiring events to land a job in environmental services at UAMS and enrolled Victoria and J’Vonte in our after-school program, Our Club. Sheila has excelled in her job, earning a raise that has allowed her to save even more money to invest in her family’s future. With her job and savings, Sheila was also proudly able to send her oldest daughter, Shara, to college at Henderson State University. Since the pandemic began, Victoria and J’Vonte have continued to receive academic support from the Our Club team throughout the summer and into the new school year while Sheila works in an essential community role. We are proud to say that Sheila’s family has been approved for a Habitat for Humanity home! Within a year, Sheila will move from an apartment to a home that she owns—a true testament to her hard work.
