Tanisha

Tanisha is a dedicated mother and advocate for her children, including one with special needs, but she has struggled to maintain employment while juggling her other responsibilities as a single parent. An extended period of unemployment had led led Tanisha’s family into housing instability.

Tanisha never liked to ask for help, but on the advice of her aunt, she reached out to Our House to, in her words, help her “with the process of rebuilding my life.” She connected with a case manager, Jae, who helped her develop a plan—finding quality schooling for her children, finding a job, opening a bank account, building her financial skills, and maintaining stable housing. Less than a year after engaging with Our House, Tanisha has achieved all of these goals and more: “I work at Chick Fil A, and I love it. It feels good to get back to work. They have been very great with working around my hours with the kids’ school. And it pays well. It is a win-win!”

Tanisha is proactive about getting her children the services they need; both are enrolled in elementary school now, and her son is enrolled in the therapeutic supports he needs to succeed. “It has been challenging, but I make sure I stay on top of it, Tanisha says. Looking ahead Tanisha is interested in going back to school to become a nurse and building a new career in the healthcare field, but she puts this goal in perspective: “Ultimately I’m a simple girl. My goal is to be financially stable, living in a nice house, and the kids are happy, and we’re thriving. That’s it.” Through her own hard work and some support from Our House along the way, Talisha is well on her way to achieving her goals for her family.
