Tasha

September 4th, 2019

After facing homelessness on and off for almost eight years, Tasha arrived at Our House in 2014 with her six-month old son, Ty. Tasha found jobs on campus working as a housekeeper and a chef in the Shelter kitchen, enrolled Ty in Little Learners, and became committed to making a positive difference for her family. “Our House gave me the stability to learn how to raise a child,” Tasha says. “My children are my life; I would do anything for them.” In Little Learners, Ty has received or been connected to all of the speech, physical, and behavioral therapy that he’s needed, and he just recently graduated from his PreK classroom!

Tasha was able to use the Career Center to apply for a Section 8 Housing voucher and now lives with her family in a duplex of their own. Since moving out of the Shelter, Tasha has been stably enrolled in our CAFSI program, which has helped her establish goals for her family, save money, and even obtain her driver’s license! Now, Tasha spends most of her time taking GED classes in the Career Center. She hopes to have her GED by the end of next year by which time she plans to have her family situated into a new home and Ty will be well settled into Elementary school. Since working as the Shelter cook, Tasha found a passion for cooking, and she would love to pursue that passion after she completes her GED!
