Arkansas Matters

LITTLE ROCK, AR (News release) – The second annual Health and Wellness Day will take place at Our House Saturday, September 21.  Health and Wellness Day, sponsored by the Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas, educates clients and their families on leading healthy lifestyles. The event provides health services, activities, and events for Our House clients, as well as clients from other homeless programs in Little Rock. Heath and Wellness Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Our House campus, 302 E. Roosevelt Road.

“Health care costs and health problems are big factors in pushing people into homelessness,” said Georgia Mjartan, Executive Director of Our House. “We are grateful to the Blue & You Foundation and our many partners for giving us the tools and resources to meet the health needs of our clients.”

Our House is in the second year of a comprehensive health improvement project funded by the Blue & You Foundation which includes health screenings, case management, education, referrals and services. Through the first eighteen months of the program, Our House has already served over 1,100 homeless adults and children.

“We applaud Our House for taking the initiative to meet the health and health care needs of some of Arkansas’s most disadvantaged residents,” said Patrick O’Sullivan, Executive Director of the Blue & You Foundation. “This project is an important piece of the Blue & You Foundation’s overall strategy to boost the health of all Arkansans.”

As a key part of its project, Our House has established partnerships with dozens of health professionals, non profit agencies, and other organizations to meet health needs of clients. Many of these partners will be on hand for Health & Wellness Day, providing activities, services, educational events and more for participants. Activities include yoga classes, chair massages, fitness classes, “Ask a Pediatrician” sessions, hearing screenings, HIV tests, and much more.

The event features health activities for children as well as adults.
