Sharonica Lee and her three children are the recipients of this year’s Resilient Family of the Year Award presented by Our House. The Resilient Family of the Year award seeks to honor Our House clients that best exemplify the hard work, wise decision-making, and active participation in the community that Our House sees as keys to success in overcoming homelessness.

Sharonica and her family were at the brink of homelessness when they engaged with Our House. Our House helped Sharonica train for and find a higher-paying job and secure child care for her young children, while her oldest daughter got academic support and enrichment in the Our Club out-of-school-time program. Sharonica also participated in Our House’s Community Council, a group of client advisers that helps the organization make programming more responsive to the needs of the families it serves. After 12 months of help from Our House, Sharonica and her family are now stably housed with a bright future in front of them.

“The Resilient Family of the Year Award is a way to lift up one family as an inspiration to our entire community that the programs you are supporting here at Our House work,” said Ben Goodwin, Our House’s Executive Director. “It is also an inspiration to the hundreds of other families we serve each year that they too can climb their way out of homelessness with help from Our House.”

The honor includes an award of more than $15,000 towards a 529 college savings plan to help prepare Sharonica’s children to be able to go to college. Funding for the award includes $10,000 from Arvest and $5,290 from the State of Arkansas’s 529 Plan.
