LITTLE ROCK, Ark– Little Rock college athletes recently lent a helping hand at a local homeless shelter.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Trojans partnered with Our House, a local homeless shelter that provides housing and career services, early child development and after-school programs and family stability.

“I think, you know, we are a part of this community also, and I think that is really important that we step up, and you know we have a voice to use, and we should use it. We should try to make an impact,” Aubry Matthews with the Student Athletics Advisory Committee said.

According to their website, Our House began in 1988 with only 40 beds and currently operates with 110.

Rachael Borne, director of Programs for Our House, said they will open a new building on their shelter campus in mid-April, creating 166 beds.

“So, providing people a safe, warm, cozy place to sleep every night is really our bread and butter, and so we always need linens,” Borne said.
