LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – It’s never too early to prepare for your child’s future – which is why one local shelter is helping parents get a leg up.
“Our House” shelter hosted a college savings sign up event Tuesday.
The event aimed to help parents of homeless kids set aside savings for their children’s education.
One mom says she knows it’s best to start saving now, so she got her two-month-old son signed up today.
“It’s a start, and it’s early. It’s best to do it early because when you get older, it can be real hard. So it’s best to start early,” Janesha Brown said.
Research shows that low and moderate income kids who have dedicated college savings plans, even with smaller amounts, are three times more likely to attend college, and four times more likely to graduate, than those without any savings.
