In late 2023, Robert Stevenson needed help providing a home and stability for his daughter Cali, so he Googled places to get help, and he found Our House. Fortunately, he was able to get a room in our Family House, where he was able to access a full range of services to help build a better life for his family.
“This place offers you a home, meals, a safe and secure environment, and a schedule and structure to keep you focused on your goals. What else can you ask for in a time of need?” Robert reflects. He enrolled Cali in our Bright Beginnings child care program, and then went to work finding a job. He started out in Our House’s job training program, working for six months in our resale store to build job skills. He then got a job at a staffing agency, and, after a few more months of saving money, was ready to move his family into their own home.
Since leaving our housing program, Robert has continued working to achieve goals for his family, and his Stability Case Manager, Kate, has been by his side every step of the way. Robert found an even better living situation for him and Cali. He got hired on in a permanent role at the University of Arkansas Little Rock. He enrolled Cali in Kindergarten, and he successfully advocated for his daughter to be enrolled in a specific school that he thought would be the best fit for her. Cali is thriving in school, and now comes to Our Club every day after school, which helps Robert keep working and succeeding in his full-time job.
Robert took the initiative and did the hard work to achieve all of this for his family, but he gives credit to Kate and Our House for helping him through the journey. “The case managers here are great. If you stay in communication with them, you can go very far. There were situations where I couldn’t figure out how I was going to get something done, and Kate was there for us. Our House was there for us.”
