Shamya

Without a GED, Shamya was having difficulty finding employment that would support her family of three children, leading her to become homeless and to move in with her sister. Shamya heard about the Job Training program at Our House and quickly came to the Career Center to get started! Shamya worked as a job trainee at the Our House Resale Store and was heavily involved in picking up store donations from donor’s homes, developing valuable logistical and customer service experience. After only four months, Shamya found full-time employment at Carter’s where she’s earned enough to move her family back into their own place!

Shamya is also taking advantage of other services at Our House and will be using the Career Center to take classes to finally earn her GED, setting her up for success in her future career. When Shamya heard about other opportunities to learn about money management and housing stability, she also decided to enroll in our family stability program, CAFSI. In just few short months at Our House, Shamya has secured a stable job and permanent housing, so she is looking forward to all that the future holds!
