Health and Wellness Day is a Hit at Our House

LITTLE ROCK, AR – More than 50 homeless adults and children participated in health education workshops, Saturday. Some got tested for HIV, learned what their Body Mass Index is and got screened for chronic illnesses at Our House in Little Rock. They also learned things like, how to properly use a car-seat or participated in physical fitness classes offered on-site.

The Saturday event took place in The Learning Center at Our House, where homeless adults can get everything from job skills training and adult basic education to health education. This was a special program of Our House funded by a couple of grants; one from the Arkansas Blue and You Foundation and the other from the Arkansas Health and Education Foundation.

The funding enabled development of a comprehensive health initiative specifically targeted at homeless adults and children. The new program began earlier this year and is expected to continue into 2013 if additional support can be obtained through grants or private donations.

Saturday’s event was just one of many in the year-long comprehensive health initiative for the homeless.
