Shaybrion and her four children were experiencing chronic homelessness prior to coming to Our House two years ago. After enrolling in our CAFSI program, she secured affordable, income-based housing, and negotiated an end to her lease, avoiding an eviction on her credit. Her children were enrolled in our out-of-school-time program, Our Club. Her older children, Karryington and Ja’Don (pictured below), had failing grades in core classes last year, and were in danger of retention. Their Youth Program Specialist, LaKia, introduced an improvement plan for Karryington and Ja’Don. The two began receiving additional tutoring from Our Club team members and volunteers, and learned to ask for help when needed. Shaybrion took advantage of Our House’s Positively Parenting course to learn effective discipline and communication methods and became heavily involved in helping her children with their homework. Through their own hard-work, the dedication of their mother, and the support of Our Club, Karryington and Ja’Don were delighted to receive passing grades in all subjects for the first quarter of the 2019-2020 school year!
